Electoral District & Nomination
There are seven electoral districts for the purpose of Council elections. Your electoral district is determined by your practice location. If you are not working, your electoral district is determined by your residential location.
The nomination period for the 2026 Council Election will take place between May 8 to May 23.
Eligible registrants in each district will receive an email on May 8 with information on how to submit nominations and cast their votes. Stay tuned!

Competency, eligibility & requirements
To run for election, you:
- must be registered in good standing;
- cannot have been an employee, officer or director of any professional association or certifying body in the healthcare or health-related field for one year before submitting your nomination;
- must run in the district in which you are eligible to vote; and
- (District 7 only) must also be employed full-time at a faculty or department of kinesiology at an Ontario university.
To support strong governance, continuity, and sustainability, COKO has adopted a Council and Committee Competency Profile. The profile outlines the knowledge, skills, judgment, attitudes, and experience required for effective service, and clearly distinguishes the competencies needed for Council and committee members.
The profile is used in a variety of ways to support best governance practices, including assessing the eligibility and suitability of individuals seeking election to Council and/or appointment to a committee.
If you are considering running for Council, you are required to:
- review the Council and Committee Profile and assess how your qualifications align with the identified competencies, and
- complete the Council Competency Self-Assessment
- complete an online Council Orientation Module to be eligible to run. The module takes about one hour to complete, and you will be required to submit a form at the end to confirm completion with COKO.
Becoming a Council member
Serving on Council allows you to:
- Have your voice heard and bring forward valuable perspectives;
