COKO is part of a joint effort with other health regulatory colleges in Ontario to provide educational resources to Kinesiologists about intimate partner homicide involving firearms. This work is part of our response to recommendations from the Office of the Chief Coroner’s 2022–2023 Domestic Violence Death Review Committee Annual Report. Our goal is to help give Kinesiologists information and tools to identify risks to patient/client safety and well-being.

As part of this project we’d like to invite Kinesiologists to attend a virtual webinar that will cover:

• The importance of professional action to prevent intimate partner violence (IPV) and its associated harms
• IPV risk factors, including aging, substance use, declining physical, cognitive, and mental health, family dynamics, and access to firearms
• IPV risk assessment in health care settings
• IPV-related reporting, including considerations from the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario
